BEAUFORT, S.C. -- The Beaufort Naval Hospital will be reducing some services later this year as part of Defense Department efforts to cut spending.
The Beaufort Gazette reports that by June 30, the hospital will close its emergency room and will no longer provide obstetrics and gynecology services. The hospital also will reduce surgical and pediatric services.
The hospital said the changes will not affect care for Marine Corps recruits at Parris Island.
The statement said military families will be able to get services they used to get at the Naval Hospital at other local hospitals through the Tricare health network to which most military families belong.
