LADY’S ISLAND, S.C. — Authorities say a Beaufort County deputy was shot in the shoulder as he kicked down a locked bedroom door during a drug raid.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release that Sgt. Mark Cobb was treated and released at the hospital after being wounded around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say Cobb was helping other deputies on the SWAT team and federal agents serve a search warrant for drugs at a Lady’s Island home when they were shot at as they broke down a bedroom door.

Authorities say Cobb fired back, but did not hit 28-year-old Tray Graves or a woman in the room with him.

Deputies say Graves was turned over to federal authorities to face charges. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
