The search for a 23-year-old woman continues near the Ravenel Bridge today.
A Highway Patrol trooper found a black Honda Accord unoccupied and running on the bridge at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. Charleston Police later identified 23-year-old Elizabeth Ashley Ward as the last known driver of the car.
Ward is black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds. She was last seen wearing a multicolored beanie, a plaid shirt, a denim jacket and blue jeans.
Investigators found an iPad and earplugs inside the car. Police closed a lane of the bridge early Saturday morning, while officials from the Highway Patrol, the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. Authorities suspended the search later Saturday.
Charleston Police Harbor Patrol, the Coast Guard and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources searched from dawn until dusk Sunday for Ward. The Coast Guard also broadcase an alert to mariners.
The same crew resumes its search today. Anyone with information should call Charleston Police at 577-7434.
