Authorities: Irmo cops shoot, wound suspect who pointed gun

IRMO, S.C. — Authorities say two police officers in Irmo shot a man who pointed a gun at them.

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry tells local media outlets that agents were called just after 2 a.m. Wednesday about a shooting involving Irmo officers.

Berry says two officers had gone to a home for a domestic violence call. When officers went inside, Berry says a suspect had a gun in his hand and pointed it at them.

Berry says both officers shot at the suspect, hitting him in the chest.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment. His name has not been released. Neither of the officers was hurt, and state police are investigating.
