Ashley Ridge High student facing discipline after threatening to shoot people

An Ashley Ridge High School student is facing discipline after telling other students he was going to shoot up the school Wednesday.

At least one parent heard about it and urged parents through Twitter to keep their children home Thursday.

Wednesday night, Dorchester County deputies questioned the student, who told them he was joking, District 2 spokeswoman Pat Raynor said.

“As a result of their investigation, the Sheriff’s Department has determined the threat of a shooting at Ashley Ridge High School is not credible,” Raynor said.

As a precaution, extra deputies were on campus Thursday morning to reassure parents and students that the campus is safe, she said.

The student will be disciplined according to district policy, Raynor said.
