Anderson man sued over teen’s death in DUI crash

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A 24-year-old Anderson man and the bars that served him alcohol have been sued by the mother of a teen killed in a crash last year.

Local media outlets report that the mother of 17-year-old Amber Perkins filed the $10 million lawsuit Monday against Riley McDermott and two bars in the Anderson area. The lawsuit says the bars that served McDermott should have known he was drunk and gotten him alternate transportation.

McDermott is charged with three counts each of felony DUI resulting in death and felony DUI with great bodily harm. Perkins, 20-year-old Jessica Roberts and 22-year-old Corey Simmonds died in the November crash.

Authorities say McDermott’s truck crossed the center line and hit their vehicle. Two others in the car and a passenger in the truck were hospitalized.
