American Red Cross assisting Harleyville resident displaced by fire

A blaze Saturday morning destroyed a home in Harleyville.

American Red Cross volunteers have provided the displaced resident with temporary housing, money for food and clothing, comfort kits and other services, according to a news release from the organization.

Crews from the Harleyville and Ridgeville fire departments extinguished the blaze on Judge Street, the release said.

Red Cross volunteers respond to similar incidents roughly every four hours. About 7,000 people were assisted by the organization last year in South Carolina, the release said.
