Robert Beard

AIKEN, S.C. — An Aiken County deputy has been fired after being arrested on child molestation charges.

News outlets report that Detention Deputy Robert Beard was arrested Tuesday on a warrant obtained by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Aiken County was notified last week that Beard was the subject of a Richmond County investigation. He had been placed on administrative leave March 28, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Beard is also being investigated by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for incidents that authorities say happened in Aiken County. No other details into the investigation have been released.

Beard had been with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office since 2014.
