MYRTLE BEACH — Hundreds of firefighters from around the world are competing against each other in Myrtle Beach this week.

The event is the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge. It begins at Broadway at the Beach on Monday and continues through next weekend.

The competitions feature firefighters in full gear in contests including climbing a five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized dummy.

The event is sponsored by Scott Fire Apparatus.

It attracts about 1,500 competitors and more than 4,000 of their family and friends.
