MOUNT PLEASANT — After 40 years, Alex's Restaurant, an institution on Coleman Boulevard, has closed.

But the 5,800-square-foot building won't stay dark long.

The longtime restaurant will become the new home of Page's Okra Grill by mid-June, Okra Grill co-owner Tony Page said.

For the past five years, Okra Grill has served down-home cooking in a leased spot just down the street at 794 Coleman Blvd.

The current Okra Grill will become the home of Kudzu Bakery, which now has shops in Georgetown and Litchfield Beach. Owners Stacy and Joey Rabon said they plan to open by the end of the summer.
