T-Breds sweep region titles at girls' golf championship

South Aiken Lindsey Greene

South Aiken's Lindsey Greene again successfully defended her Region 5-AAAA individual championship with an 82 at Midland Valley Golf Club. She led the T-Breds to the team championship by 12 shots over Aiken High.

South Aiken's girls are once again at the top of Region 5-AAAA golf, with Lindsey Greene once again leading the way for the T-Breds.

Greene, the three-time reigning Aiken Standard Girls' Golfer of the Year, added yet another championship to her collection. She shot an 82 on Tuesday at Midland Valley Golf Club, two shots clear of Aiken High's Kaylee McElwain, to pace South Aiken to a 12-shot victory.

The T-Breds finished with a team total of 398, and Daniella Penaloza (101) and Anna Claire Platte (102) joined Greene on the all-region team. Allie Thomas played well enough to make the all-region team with a 108, but a scorekeeping error within her group left her with a 114.

Aiken was second at 410, led by all-region performers McElwain (84) and Gracie Patterson (94). Each made the all-region team last year, as well.

North Augusta took third at 474, with Cassady Fortson (109) making the all-region team for the second year in a row.

Miracle Walker posted a 115 to lead Midland Valley, which was a player short of being able to post a team score.

Up next is the Class AAAA Lower State championship, which will be held at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence. The tournament is scheduled for Oct. 18 with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.

Predators take second in Region 5-AAA

Fox Creek's girls' golf team finished second Tuesday in the Region 5-AAA championship, hosted at Ponderosa Country Club in Batesburg-Leesville.

The Predators posted a team score of 383, led by senior all-region performers Caroline Heath (83) and Ansley James (95). Gilbert won the team title with a score of 310.

Fox Creek will compete in the Class AAA Lower State championship Oct. 18 at the Cheraw State Park Golf Course. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m.
