Hornets' Mahoney named Class AAAA volleyball Player of the Year

Aiken High's Brianna Mahoney has been named the Class AAAA Player of the Year in volleyball, the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports announced.

Mahoney, a senior outside hitter who recently signed to play at Wofford, was also named the Region 4-AAAA Player of the Year. A Class AAAA All-State and North-South All-Star selection, Mahoney helped the Hornets go 40-2 and win the state championship for the third time in program history.

For the season, Mahoney had a hitting percentage of .332 with 489 kills, including 32 against North Myrtle Beach in the state title match. She also had 311 digs, 43 aces and 39 total blocks.

The other Player of the Year picks are Mauldin's Jurnee Robinson in Class AAAAA, Powdersville's Maura Kindel in AAA, Gray Collegiate's Za'Niya Boyles in AA and St. Joseph's Emily Normand in A.
