Other news websites are free.  Why do I have to pay to read the Aiken Standard?

Quality news gathering, writing, publishing, and distribution requires a highly-skilled local staff and facility.  Since 1867, Aiken County has valued its local news organization and supported the essential civil role it plays by paying for the professional journalism and original daily news.

Content is available through multiple digital channels including, mobile and tablet apps, and a variety of associated websites.

The Aiken Standard’s subscription plans provide access to our full range of content across all platforms: the daily newspaper,, mobile & tablet apps including our E-Paper, as well as custom publications.

Aiken Standard subscribers also receive unlimited online access to more South Carolina news by local journalists from the Post and Courier Charleston, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, and Columbia editions.  Subscribers have access to The Berkeley Independent, Columbia’s Free Times, Goose Creek’s Our Gazette, Kingstree’s The News, Moultrie News, Georgetown Times, the Summerville Journal Scene, and the North Augusta Star. For non-subscribers, access to will be limited to two stories every 45 days, with some exceptions.  A digital only subscription, which does not include delivery of our printed products, is available for as low as $17 per month.


What about current subscribers?

Current print subscribers automatically receive access to our websites, mobile and tablet apps and can start reading upon activating their access with an email address, and password.  Click here to start, or call (803) 648-2311 for assistance. How do I download the mobile and tablet apps that I can access with my paid subscription?  The Aiken Standard E-Paper, and the Aiken Standard mobile site apps are free and can be downloaded depending on your device, from the Google Play or Apple Store.  Once downloaded, access is granted with an activated email, and password.


How can I access your archives?

Newspaper archives are available to print and digital subscribers through the E-paper, a digital replica of the printed daily newspaper.  To access the E-Paper, use the link on the upper left hand corner of the home page (three horizontal white lines, known as the “hamburger”).  From the list, click E-edition.  To access past editions, click on the date on the top left hand corner.  A list of the current month editions will be displayed.  To access the last 3 years of available E-papers, click Archived Editions. Archives older than three years are available at an additional charge, and can be found from the same link.  Click here  to view and/or download a step –by – step guide to accessing the E-Paper.


Do you share my digital account with anyone? 

The Aiken Standard respects the privacy of all subscribers.  The personal information you provide to us will not be sold, traded or given to any third-party vendors.

Vacation Stop Policy

All subscribers of the Aiken Standard receive access to, our E-Paper, as well as all tablet and mobile applications.  While away on vacation print subscribers may stop home delivery of their print edition, but the digital service will remain available.  Therefore, the daily charge will continue for the digital service.  Subscribers can elect to have up to two weeks of “held” newspapers delivered in a “vacation package” upon their return.
