John W. (Bill) Harvey

EDGEFIELD -- Mr. John William (Bill) Harvey, 76, of Columbia Rd., Edgefield, entered into rest on Nov. 20, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Edgefield First Baptist Church with Rev. Stacy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery. Mr. Harvey was a native of Jakin, Ga., and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas G. Harvey. Mr. Harvey retired from Belk after 35 years of employment. He enjoyed his part-time work at Pine Ridge Plantation during his senior years. He was a member of the Edgefield First Baptist Church and the American Legion Hezzie Griffis Post #30. During the Korean War he served as a Marine and received the Purple Heart. He attended the University of Ga. and Augusta College. Mr. Harvey was an avid University of Ga. sports fan. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Harling Harvey; one son, James W. (Jay) Harvey and his wife Barbara of Augusta; one daughter, Cindy H. Knode and husband Dave of Fort Mill, S.C.; three grandchildren, Grayson, Riley and Bethany; three step-grandchildren, Tony, Alan and Dakota, one brother, Raymond S. Harvey of Aiken; and Bill's precious pet, Muffet. Memorials may be made to the National Parks Service of America, 1300 19th St. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036, or Edgefield First Baptist Church Cancer Relay for Life, P.O. Box 624, Edgefield, S.C. 29824. The family is at the home and will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
