Aiken’s signature race event, Run United, hosted by Aiken Electric Cooperative, returns for its 12th year and is scheduled for April 29.
The iconic 5K, 10K, half marathon and one mile Kids’ Fun Run race event, showcases the city’s architecture, downtown streetscape and picturesque neighborhoods. The event is expected to draw over 1,000 registered runners nationwide.
“This landmark race event will greatly promote healthier living and reinvigorate the local community as we look towards a post-pandemic future,” said Race Director Keyatta Priester, community development manager at Aiken Electric.
“Each year, the City of Aiken looks forward to participating in Run United,” said Rick Osbon, mayor of Aiken. “It really is a remarkable event, and it’s inspiring to see the folks of our city come out for such a great cause.”
Run United promotes health and wellness while raising funds to benefit United Way of Aiken County and the communities they serve. Since 2014, $250,000 has been donated to the United Way of Aiken County on behalf of Run United. Registration fees are taxdeductible, and the proceeds from the event benefit the United Way.
Registration is open. Volunteers are needed to manage water stations, registration, awards and other post- and pre-race activities.
“This race has grown to be a world-class running experience for our participants with nearly 800 volunteers and spectators who help us set the stage of the event’s atmosphere,” said Priester.
All participating runners will receive a souvenir photo, medallion and a runner’s t-shirt. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and a drawstring bag with essentials for the day.
“This event makes a huge impact, leaving a lasting ripple effect on the people and services we provided at United Way, but none of that would be possible without the support of our local businesses, runners and volunteers," said Sharon Rodgers, president of United Way of Aiken County.
