Business feature: Green Energy Biofuel

Planning to fry a turkey for Thanksgiving this year?

No matter the size of your home-cooked meals, if you are using cooking oil or frying food at the house, then there is a great local option where you can easily recycle all that unwanted grease.

Green Energy Biofuel is a local South Carolina grease recycling company that collects and processes used cooking oil. The business offers a free recycling service for residents to dispose of their used cooking oil safely and easily at their plant in Warrenville, about 10 minutes from downtown Aiken.

“We have a cooking oil collection bin for use right in front of the entrance to the property,” said Taylor Strickland, a member of the Green Energy team since 2019. “Just let the cooking oil cool down completely after you get done, then transfer it back into a secure container until you are ready to drop it off at our facility.”

The recycling bin is clearly marked right in front of the gate. Simply bring your container to their location, lift the lid and pour your used cooking oil in. Their recycling program accepts cooking oil, vegetable oil, and animal fats and grease.

“The holidays are when we see the biggest uptick in household cooking oil usage, but there are lots of residents who utilize the program year-round”, Strickland said. “Looking at our South Carolina recycling program last year, everyone who decided to recycle their cooking oil instead of throwing it away helped divert over 350,000 pounds of it from their local landfill and water systems. We hope to have additional cooking oil drop off locations in the future.”

Green Energy Biofuel is located at 2110 Main St. in Warrenville.
