Big Lots store set to open in Aiken next year on the Southside

Aiken’s Southside is getting a Big Lots, but the store isn’t scheduled to begin welcoming shoppers before or during this year’s holiday shopping season.

The Aiken Standard received the following response Monday from a Big Lots Inc. spokesperson to an email sent to press@biglots.com:

“There is a new store opening in Aiken in 2022. There are no additional details to share at this time, but we would be happy to reach back out with relevant information as we close in on a timeline.”

The location will be located at the former Bi-Lo at 1016 Pine Log Road based on a “restricted” business license for a “one time job” issued by the City of Aiken to contractor.

Simmons Construction of New Tazewell, Tennessee, is the licensee.

Work is already underway to make changes at the former Bi-Lo where copies of the license are posted.

A man at the site, who identified himself as a supervisor but wouldn’t disclose his name, said Tuesday that the former Bi-Lo would become a Big Lots store.

The copies of the business license also indicate that a Big Lots will be located there.

Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Big Lots Inc. is a discount retail company that operates more than 1,400 stores in 47 states, according to biglots.com.

In Aiken County currently, there is one Big Lots located in North Augusta at 406 E. Martintown Road.
