Ash Wednesday Around Aiken
This year's Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, fell on Feb. 17, and some adjustments were in place for its observance, due to COVID-19 precautions. These images are from the afternoon of Feb. 16 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church (a service for Mead Hall students), the next morning at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and the evening of Feb. 17 at All Saints' Anglican Church, all in the traditional start of the season leading up to Easter. The annual tradition is largely associated with Catholicism and Anglicanism.
