Courtney Laverne Clyburn of Aiken, SC, and George Washington Pope III of Aiken, SC, were married Nov. 24, 2007, in Aiken, SC. The bride was given in marriage by her parents, Rep. and Mrs. William Clyburn Sr. The Revs. Alvin Larke Jr. and Moses Miller officiated. The bride is the daughter of Rep. William Clyburn and City Councilwoman Beverly Clyburn of Aiken, S.C. She is a granddaughter of the late William Dozier and Maggie Dozier and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Clyburn. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. George Pope Jr. and Dr. Teresa Pope of Aiken, S.C. He is a grandson of the late Staretha Aaron Larke and Mr. Alvin Larke Sr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Pope Sr. Niya H. Lloyd of Aiken, S.C., and Janet P. Pope of Aiken, S.C., were the maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Natalie Armstrong of Columbia, S.C., friend of the bride; Keona Bazilio of Houston, Texas, friend of the bride; Angela Clyburn of Columbia, S.C., cousin of the bride; Dionne Clyburn of Washington, D.C., sister-in-law of the bride; Felita Fowler of Danville, Va., cousin of the bride; LaToya Pope of Columbia, S.C., sister of the groom; Ansley Pope of Aiken, S.C., sister of the groom; and Rasheedah Thomas of Washington, D.C., cousin of the bride. George W. Pope Jr. of Aiken, S.C., and Cory Pope of Aiken, S.C., were the best men. Groomsmen were Brantley Bell of Charlotte, N.C., godbrother of the groom; William Clyburn Jr. of Washington, D.C., brother of the bride; Wilson Clyburn of Charleston, S.C., brother of the bride; James Heatly of Rock Hill, S.C., friend of the groom; Kendrick Lewis of Charlotte, N.C., friend of the groom; Chris Nelson of Charlotte, N.C., friend of the groom; Thomas Ryans of Columbia, S.C., friend of the groom; and Dale Young Jr. of North Augusta, S.C., cousin of the groom. William Clyburn III of Washington, D.C., was the ringbearer. Christin Clyburn of Washington, D.C., was the flower girl. Following a reception in Aiken, S.C., the couple left for a wedding trip to Aruba. They will reside in Columbia, S.C. The bride is a graduate of South Aiken High School. She is a graduate of USC-Columbia and the USC School of Law. She is employed by McAngus Goudelock & Courie as an attorney. The bridegroom is a graduate of Silver Bluff High School. He is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University with a degree in health and physical education. He is employed by Richland One School District as a P.E. and health teacher and head football coach.
