A 30-year-old man and an 8-month-old boy died after two separate wrecks in Dorchester County Tuesday.
The coroner’s office identified them as Jamar Lary, 30, of Dorchester and Amare Paige, 8 months, of St. George.
The baby was a passenger in a 2004 Ford SUV that wrecked at 5:56 p.m. on Interstate 26 west at the 174 mile marker near Harleyville, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The SUV went off the right side of the road and hit a tree and overturned several times.
The baby was in a child safety seat. He died at 7:38 p.m. at Medical University Hospital, according to Coroner Alice Durr. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. The driver was taken to a hospital with injuries.
Lary died after a wreck around 10:20 p.m. near 2116 E. Main St. in Harleyville. He was driving a 2006 Nissan Maxima that went off the right side of the road and then the left side and hit a utility pole and a tree, according to the Highway Patrol. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.
He died at 11:23 p.m. at Trident Medical Center from blunt-force chest trauma, according to the coroner.
