Suspect who broke into Berkeley County school also stole iPads, investigators say

Bryant John and the four recovered iPads.

The man who broke into a Berkeley County school and vandalized a vending machine also broke in and stole iPads, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Bryant Daniel John, 28, of Ladson was caught on surveillance camera July 4 at College Park Elementary School after a break-in and vandalism of a vending machine was reported, according to Chief Deputy Mike Cochran. It was later discovered that somebody had broken in on another day and stolen four iPads.

The iPads were recovered from pawnshops and returned to school staff.

John was arrested Wednesday in connection with the vending machine vandalism and was then charged with both crimes. He faces two counts of third-degree burglary. He also may be charged in connection with other burglaries, Cochran said.

John is being held in the Berkeley County jail on $50,000 bail.

Sheriff Duane Lewis said tips from the community after deputies released a surveillance photo Monday led to John’s arrest.

“The community assistance with this case was significant and appreciated,” he said in a statement. “Without the overwhelming support and feedback, it would not have been as easy to solve this case. Working together, we can continue to make a difference in Berkeley County.”
