Summerville man sentenced to prison in child porn case

Brian Franz

A Summerville man will spend three years in prison for sharing child pornography.

Brian Paul Franz of Walnut Creek Road pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and five counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor in Dorchester County. An additional count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor was dismissed.

On Monday, Circuit Judge Maite Murphy handed down a 10-year sentence that was suspended to three years with five years of probation.

Franz was found in possession of 90 videos that depicted minors engaging in sexual activity, investigators said. Dorchester County sheriff’s detectives launched an investigation in 2014 after a Berkeley County detective downloaded several videos from Franz’ IP address.

Franz must register as a sex offender.
