Second body recovered from Lake Moultrie

Two bodies were pulled from Lake Moultrie.

The body of the second boater who fell into Lake Moultrie on Saturday has been recovered, according to Berkeley County Rescue Chief Bill Salisbury.

Seven people went overboard around dusk when a 35-foot Contender made an abrupt turn about 3 miles from Short Stay boat landing in Moncks Corner. Two men, ages 47 and 51, were missing and presumed drowned.

Salisbury identified the men as Nathaniel Hawkins, of North Charleston and Jake Williams, of Summerville. Both deaths were ruled accidental drownings.

The driver of the boat, Jacque Bracewell Jr. of Travelers Rest Boulevard in Summerville, was charged with boating under the influence with great bodily injury and released from the Berkeley County jail on $20,000 bail. Court records don’t give his age but say he was born in 1966.
