Red Cross helping three adults, two children after fire on James Island

The local chapter of the American Red Cross is helping three adults and two children whose homes on James Island were damaged in a fire Wednesday.

One residence had major damage and two other minor damage in a blaze reported on Fleming Road. No details about the fire were released.

The Red Cross is helping the residents by providing services to meet their immediate needs, including financial assistance, temporary lodging, comfort kits containing personal hygiene items and referrals to partner agencies to assist with long-term recovery.

The organization, on average, responds to a house fire in South Carolina every four hours, according to a news release.
