North Charleston police are investigating an early morning shooting that sent one man to a hospital and left another man dead.
Police said officers responded to a call for shots fired on South Kenwood Drive just after 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
When officers arrived, they found a dead adult man with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground. A second adult man was also found with gunshot wounds and was transported to MUSC.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victim as Zia Fredericks, a 27-year-old man from Ladson.
Fredericks’ death is the 18th homicide and 17th fatal shooting for the North Charleston Police Department this year, according to Post and Courier records. There have been 40 deaths in 35 incidents in the Tri-county area to date.
No further information was available late Saturday.
