Fire destroys nature center at Huntington Beach State Park

A fire destroyed the nature center at Huntington Beach State Park early Wednesday, killing the animals inside.

A fire destroyed the nature center at Huntington Beach State Park early Wednesday.

Several animals inside the three-story building perished, according to the Georgetown Times and other media outlets.

Turtles, alligators, snakes and fish were in the building.

The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. A lightning strike was the suspected cause.

Huntington Beach is in Murrells Inlet, which is on the coast between Georgetown and Myrtle Beach.
