MONCKS CORNER - Incumbent Sylleste Davis handily won the Republican primary for state House Seat 100 on Tuesday.

Davis, who was sworn in on June 8 to fill the unexpired term of former Rep. Eddy Southard, bested challenger Robbie Metts, 73-27 percent, in official results.

Less than 5 percent, or about 1,384 of the district’s registered voters cast ballots in the special primary, according to the Berkeley County Election Commission. The election was required after Southard, who was the only candidate to file for the seat, withdrew his name from the ballot in June.

The district stretches from Moncks Corner to Summerville.

The results will be certified Wednesday.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will face Democrat Tonia Aiken-Taylor on Nov. 8.
