Charleston County sheriff: Woman shot in fight between girlfriends

A man’s girlfriend shot his former lover when she showed up at his house Friday morning, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Sometime around 10 a.m., the former girlfriend showed up at 4756 Ernestine Road in the Adams Run area, according to Maj. Eric Watson. The current girlfriend started arguing with her and shot her in the chest, he said.

The wounded woman drove to the convenience store at S.C. Highways 174 and 164, where deputies found her. EMS arrived to take her to Medical University Hospital.

The woman was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning but later let go.

“Our detectives have released the suspect from custody,” Watson said. “We will not be pursuing criminal charges against her at this time. However, this investigation is ongoing.”

The victim remains in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound, he said, but is expected to recover.
