Deputies Matthew Smoak (left) and Tracy Wade

Two Charleston County deputies are credited with saving a man’s life this week.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, Deputies Tracy Wade and Matthew Smoak were sent to Macoma Road in Mount Pleasant after a man was reported to be unconscious, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They found him with no pulse and not breathing and another man trying to revive him.

Wade instructed the other man to keep providing rescue breaths while he administered chest compression. They managed to revive the man before EMS arrived to take him to Medical University Hospital.

“The medical personnel at MUSC stated that without the assistance of the two deputies ... the end result would have been gravely different for the victim,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
