UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the tri-county area until 7:15 p.m.
At 6:32 p.m., severe storms were located along a line extending from near Givhans Ferry State Park to 6 miles south of Slands Bridge to Archdale, moving southwest at 10 mph.
Hazards are strong winds up to 60 mph and half-dollar-size hail. Some locations in the path of the storm are Charleston, North Charleston and Middleton Place.
UPDATE: A flood advisory has been issued for poor drainage areas in the tri-county until 7:45 p.m..
At 6:12 p.m., the National Weather Service radar showed numerous thunderstorms extending from Pringletown southeast to North Charleston.
This area of slow-moving storms is drifting west. Minor flooding is likely.
UPDATE: At 5:48 p.m., the National Weather Service is reporting a strong thunderstorm over Goose Creeek. The storm is nearly stationary.
Hazards are strong winds up to 55 mph and nickel-size hail. Some locations in the path of the storm are North Charleston, Summerville, Hanahan and the I-26/I-526 interchange.
A flood advisory is in effect in Charleston and Berkeley counties until 6:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Just after 5:20 p.m., the radar indicated a nearly stationary thunderstorm with torrential rainfall over Hanahan. Over an inch of rain was recorded in some areas since 4:50 p.m.
Minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas is likely as heavy rain persists, according to the Weather Service. Locations that may get flooding include North Charleston, Goose Creek, Ladson and the Charleston International Airport.
Today should be mostly sunny, with a high of 91, a heat index of 101 and a 30 percent chance of afternoon showers, according to the National Weather Service.
