COLUMBIA — One day after being picked to finish last in the SEC East, the Gamecocks placed just one player on the preseason All-SEC teams as chosen by the media.

Kicker Elliott Fry, who was named to the third team, was the lone Gamecocks player chosen Friday by attendees at SEC Media Days. It continued a bleak media outlook on South Carolina, coming off a 3-9 season that featured the resignation of former coach Steve Spurrier and a 1-7 record in the SEC.

Fry, a senior, converted 20 of 28 field goal attempts last season and ranked third among SEC kickers with an average of 1.67 field goals per game. He owns the USC record with a 124 consecutive extra points made, and his 289 career points are second behind the 330 of former USC kicker Collin Mackie.

Alabama had the most first-team selections with seven, while the top individual vote getters were first-team running back Leonard Fournette of LSU, first-team quarterback Chad Kelly of Ole Miss, and first-team receiver Calvin Ridley of Alabama.
