Syked Out retains lead in Edisto billfish tournament

The top three spots remain unchanged in the Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament with only nine of the 27 participating boats electing to use Friday as one of their two allotted fishing days for the final event in the 2016 South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series.

Syked Out holds first heading into today’s final day of fishing with 1,200 points after releasing a blue marlin and three sailfish on Thursday. Flybuoy is second with 800 points and Rascal is third, also with 800 points.

The top boat Friday was No Mercy, which released a blue marlin to score 600 points. Game On released two sailfish for 400 points, while Micabe, Knot-A-Problem and Captain’s Choice also released sailfish.

The lone change in the tournament leaderboard was a 29.6-pound dolphin caught by Gryphon. Sportin’ Life has the tuna lead with a 9.3-pound blackfin and Salty Maintenance leads the wahoo division with a 48.1-pound catch.

Going into this week’s tournament, Sportin’ Life leads the overall series with 3,275 points, followed by Electric Bill with 2,275 and Rascal with 2,075. Sportin’ Life had two sailfish releases (400 points) Thursday, Electric Bill released one sailfish (200 points) and Rascal had a blue marlin and sailfish release (800 points).

Twenty-three boats are eligible to fish Saturday. Weigh-ins will begin at 5 p.m.
