Syked Out had an impressive opening day in the Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament, the final event in the 2016 South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series.
Syked Out, owned by David Sykes and captained by Dan Woody, released one blue marlin (600 points) and three sailfish (200 points each) on Thursday for a 400-point lead over second-place Flybuoy, owned by Gary Davis and captained by Todd Baxley. Flybuoy had 800 points after releasing a blue marlin and a sailfish.
Rascal, owned by Norman Pulliam and Foster McKissick and captained by Mark Rogers, also had 800 points for releasing a blue marlin and a sailfish release. Going into the Edisto tournament, Rascal was in third place overall in the series with 2,075 points. Sportin’ Life was first with 3,275 and Electric Bill second with 2,275. Sportin’ Life released two sailfish Thursday and Electric Bill had one sailfish release.
In the non-billfish categories, Day Maker has the top dolphin with a 21.4-pound catch; Sportin’ Life has the top tuna with a 9.3-pound blackfin; and Salty Maintenance has the largest wahoo at 48.1 pounds.
Twenty-seven boats are participating in the Edisto event. The tournament continues through Saturday with boats allowed to fish two out of three days, captain’s choice.
