HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Ian Sagdal’s walk-off home run with two outs in the 10th inning lifted the Hagerstown Suns to a 5-4 win over the Charleston RiverDogs on Monday night at Municipal Stadium.
RiverDogs right-hander Christian Morris battled deep into the ballgame against the South Atlantic League’s top-scoring offense. He yielded just one run on four hits while getting through the seventh inning for the first time in his career. His biggest mistake occurred in the fifth when Rhett Wiseman smacked a solo home run to tie the game at 1 after Charleston had taken the lead in the second on an RBI single by Alex Palma that scored Chris Gittens.
Charleston regained control in the fifth when Chris Godinez singled to left with one out and came around to score on an RBI double by Cesar Diaz to make it 2-1. Ricardo Ferreira doubled over the head of Hagerstown center fielder Narciso Mesa to make it 3-1.
In the eighth, the RiverDogs pushed their advantage to 4-1. After a two outs single by Charleston catcher Luis Torrens, Suns reliever Grant Borne hit two batters in a row, including Jhalan Jackson with the bases loaded, to push across another run for the RiverDogs.
Hagerstown cut the deficit to two in the eighth against RiverDogs righty Hobie Harris. A one-out walk to Telmito Agustin scored on an RBI single by Sagdal to make it 4-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, Harris came back out for his first save opportunity of the season. After Wiseman singled to lead off, Matt Page blasted a two-run homer into the Charleston bullpen, his 10th of the season, to tie the game at 4.
The loss was the second of the road trip for the RiverDogs, who fell to 2-4 in their weeklong stretch away from Riley Park. The RiverDogs are now 5½ games back of the first-place Augusta GreenJackets in the Southern Division second half standings.
With the no-decision effort, Morris lowered his ERA to a 2.52. He leads all current Charleston starters with a 2.70 second-half ERA.
The RiverDogs will go for the series split with Hagerstown at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The RiverDogs will roll out RHP Daris Vargas (6-5, 3.59 ERA) in the finale with the Suns sending RHP Jefry Rodriguez (7-6, 4.40).
