Two eagles in the same round by one of the leaders is sure to make some noise in an event like the Carolinas Amateur being played at the Country Club of Charleston. But when one of those eagles comes on the course’s signature hole, the 185-yard par-3 11th, that accomplishment goes beyond noteworthy.

Christian Sease of Mount Pleasant, a member at the Country Club of Charleston, charged to the 54-hole Carolinas Amateur lead with a 7-under-par 63 Saturday that included a hole-in-one with a 5-iron at the famous 11th hole. His other eagle came about more conventionally, on the par-5 ninth. There also were birdies at 1, 6, 7, 12 and 14. He could have tied the course record of 62 but lipped out for par on the final hole for his second bogey of the day.

Sease, at 8-under-par 202, is one stroke in front of Winthrop teammate Austin Zoller of Summerville. Zoller also bogeyed the closing hole for his second straight 67.

Charleston Southern’s R.J. Keur of Summerville and Clemson golfer Carson Young of Pendleton are tied for third at 204. Young shot 64 Saturday while Keur carded a 66. Stephen Franken of Raleigh is fifth at 68-208, while first-round leader Scott Harvey of Kernersville, N.C., charged back into contention with a 68 and is tied for sixth at 209 with Josh Branyon of Honea Path.

Tee times for Sunday’s final round begin at 8 a.m. off both nines with the leaders starting at 9:40 a.m. off No. 1.
