Charleston jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning en route to an 8-4 South Atlantic League victory over the Lakewood BlueClaws in front of a crowd of 5,031 at Riley Park on Friday night.
Gosuke Katoh and Ricardo Ferreira each drove in a pair of runs for the RiverDogs (10-10, 53-37), and shortstop Hoy Jun Park went 3 for 5.
Charleston starter Daris Vargas (5-5) earned the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs over 51/3 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
Jose Pujols drove in two runs for the BlueClaws (11-10, 40-51).
The RiverDogs enjoyed another spectacular postgame fireworks show. Fans joined in all the fun at the park as their favorite hits from the ’90s were played all night.
The series continues on Saturday night as the RiverDogs will throw out RHP Luis Cedeno (5-3, 3.74 ERA) to square off against Lakewood LHP Tyler Gilbert (4-7, 3.89). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
