Morris, Schimpf lead Al Esposito Junior Championship

Jacob Morris fired a 1-under-par 71 Tuesday to take the first-round lead in the Boys 13-18 age group of the Al Esposito Junior Championship golf tournament being played at Municipal Golf Course. Morris, a West Ashley High School student, is two strokes in front of John Thomas Verner III and leads Kyle Sawyer by six shots.

Abigail Schimpf of Daniel Island leads the Girls 13-18 age group with an even-par 72, two shots better than Telie McCoy and three better than Emma Schimpf.

Other age group leaders include: Boys 13-14 – Austin Scott, 78; Luis Thompson, 78. Boys 10-12 (9 holes) – Luke Walmet, 36. Boys 9-under (9 holes) – Tyler Taber, 38. Girls 12-under (9 holes) – Catherine Hagood, 59.

Wednesday’s final round of the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m., with the leaders in the Girls 13-18 division starting at 8:06 a.m. and the Boys 15-18 leaders starting at 10:31 a.m.
