Lowcountry lacrosse players earn All-America honors

Three Lowcountry high school players were recently named All-Americans by the U.S. Lacrosse Association. Earning All-America honors were attack Emma Pizzo and defender Elle Petyak of Bishop England, along with goalie Erica Hoskins of Academic Magnet.

In addition, Petyak was named an Academic All-American, along with Rachel Banton and Beatrice Navarro of Bishop England, Grace Rieflin of Academic Magnet and Maddie Walsh of Wando.

The Palmetto State had seven players chosen for the All-America team and seven total players selected Academic All-American.

Several local high school baseball players from the Rawlings Charleston Colts 17/18u summer team have recently announced their intentions to play college baseball.

Gunnar Finneseth and Jeffery Brown, both of Bishop England High School, will be attending The Citadel, as will James Island’s Hunter Barbee.

Colt Ayers and Donnie Sturm of Ashley Ridge will be playing at Limestone, along with Taylor Moose of James Island and Tim Hickman of Colleton County.

Porter-Gaud’s AJ Sessions committed to Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., while Connor Woods of Academic Magnet is headed to Pomona College in California.

The “Friday Night Rivals” schedule for high school games on TV has been released, with games set for 7:30 p.m. Fridays on MyTV Charleston.

The schedule kicks off with Cane Bay at Ashley Ridge on Aug. 19.

The rest of the slate: Pinewood Prep at Northwood Academy, Aug. 26; Dutch Fork at Summerville, Sept. 9; Timberland at Cane Bay, Sept. 16; Heathwood Hall at Porter-Gaud, Sept. 23; Wando at James Island, Sept. 30; Goose Creek at Fort Dorchester, Oct. 7; Hanahan at Bishop England, Oct. 14; Berkeley at Colleton County, Oct. 21; Wando at West Ashley, Oct. 28.
