A Charleston area nonprofit that’s offered human service programs for 128 years adopted an original title this month to reflect its multi-faceted assistance base.
The group started doing business as Origin SC on July 6, retiring its former name Family Services Inc. The organization’s present North Charleston location, staff and services will remain the same.
Origin SC’s goals include helping “community members achieve financial and housing stability through programs such as credit counseling, homeless prevention, foreclosure prevention, and homebuyer education,” the group notes.
“The name Origin inspires our agency to relate to our clients and the community we serve, and aligns with our mission to empower individuals to achieve financial and housing stability,” says David A. Geer III, chief executive. Origin reaches up to 8,000 people a year via programs focused on financial coaching, home preservation and family violence intervention.
“The process to change our name was an arduous process, and one that our organization did not take lightly,” says Jenna Johnson, marketing & development director. “Our goal and our hope is that by rebranding, we will reach and serve more people who may not have known about our multiple programs,” she points out.
Origin SC fits with the nonprofit’s purpose and historic longevity, Johnson says. “Family Services began in 1888 — not many nonprofits or companies can say that,” she says. “Out of our ‘origin’ has come a multi-faceted organization,” she says. “We are your ‘Origin.’ We’re here to help you reach your goals.”
