CHARLOTTE — Best dressed, or worst dressed? You be the judge.
Clemson senior linebacker Ben Boulware went, um, a different route with his chosen attire for ACC Football Kickoff at the Westin Charlotte. While quarterback Deshaun Watson and pretty much every other player went with a traditional two-piece suit, Boulware essentially threw together an outfit that would probably fail to make the cover of GQ.
“I’m too cheap for Gucci,” Boulware explained during a mock red-carpet interview with the ACC Digital Network.
Where Boulware obtained each article of clothing is as random as the ensemble itself.
Boulware, the Tigers’ leading returning tackler in 2016, is wearing a paisley pattern shirt he found at a floral-themed shop in Savannah, Ga. That is under a cream-colored blazer from M.H. Frank in downtown Clemson – “check ‘em out,” Boulware implored.
Boulware admitted to stealing a pink tie from his roommate, walk-on wide receiver Adrien Dunn. Boulware, in perhaps his most refined fashion move, did accessorize with a silver tie clip.
Garnering the most attention: Boulware’s “fake” capri pants, which have been rolled up about six inches above the ankle. He said he bought those from J. Crew in Charleston.
And his Steve Madden shoes – no socks included – were from Belk in Easley.
To finish it off, Boulware has grown back out his famous beard that he donned in the preseason of 2015, only to be shaved off during the heat of fall camp practices.
“It’s a different look,” Boulware said. “A lot of guys are going to wear the bland gray or navy blue blazer with the white tie. I wanted to mix it up. All these cameras around, I wanna look cute, you know what I’m saying? I wanna look good.”
