The stream of messages from readers demanding to know when the vaunted project from Texas pitmaster John Lewis would finally swing open its doors became a Class VI river sometime around April, when brisket anticipation apparently became unbearable.

Now the brisket’s ready for slicing, along with hot guts. The restaurant in the Half Mile North development also is serving pulled pork, sandwiches and sides, as well as homemade ice cream for dessert.

Noted local barman RH Weaver is handling the beverage end of the business, which includes spiked agua frescas and a michelada made with “secrets.”

Lewis Barbecue, 464 N. Nassau St., is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. The bar stays open two hours later. To learn more, call 843-805-9500, or visit
