Photo pick of the week: Why We’re No. 1

When Travel & Leisure magazine ranked Charleston as the world’s top city, we felt a little smug if not a bit fearful, too. Of course, they didn’t have to tell us how beautiful and fun it is to be here. And they didn’t have to tell everyone else on the planet how beautiful and fun it is to be here either.

One of the many attractions of the Lowcountry is its sunsets (and sunrises). They vary in their spectacularity according to the seasons, but certain spots afford better viewing than others. And this photo from Angie Bridges of Summerville is one example.

She says, “We are No. 1 for many reasons. We have wonderful food, it’s a beautiful city and we have the most dramatic skies for sunrises and sunsets.”

Well, on to fun activities that make life worth living here.

Whether it’s a sandcastle fit for a king, or just a really creative sandy structure on the shore, send us your best pictures of sand castles.

Get creative, and send us your favorite shots.

- Send just one (1) photograph to yourphotos@postandcourier.com by noon Thursday, July 21. Include your name, town and where the photo was taken. If you send us multiple photos we will select one randomly.

- We will allow photographs with reasonable watermarks to run in the gallery but for the winning photo that runs in the newspaper we must have a photo that does not have a watermark. If you want to send us one with the watermark (to run online) and one without (to possibly run in the newspaper) please feel free.

- The top pick each week will be featured in the Sunday Arts & Culture section and selected picks will appear on The Post and Courier Facebook page.

We reserve the right to not publish any photo for any reason.
