THE TIGER LAIR - So you may have seen this blog report from The Avenue of Champions. http://theavenueofchampions.blogspot.com/>

If you haven't, the blog contends that Dabo Swinney and The OC (Billy Napier) engaged in a heated discussion on the practice field last week, that Swinney overrides Napier play calls 15 to 25 times per game, that Swinney is out to prove some lower regarded recruits can play, and is playing them to the detriment of the team.

Swinney was asked about the internet musings today:

Swinney said he engaged in a heated discussion with about everyone on the team last week at practice, including Napier. Swinney said Napier responded on one occasion by defending a player and that he "likes Napier's fire."

Swinney said talks were designed to motivated and to produce a sense of urgency. He said it was typical football practice-stuff.

Swinney said he has only vetoed a handful of Napier play calls. Swinney said a rigid game plan is constructed during the week, that is not greatly deviated from. Napier calls in a "collaborative process."

Swinney was not asked about the only aspect of playing perceived favorites over more talented players.

Most of the speculation Swinney says, occurred on a day the band was invited to watch practice. He added if Gene Stallings had coached during the internet era he would have had truncated career due to salty language.

Napier and Swinney showed a united front Tuesday.

But the report, even without sourcing, presents some interesting smoke - where it's plausible there could be fire.

Swinney often seems to be doing most the hand-signaling in calling in offensive plays, and seems to be very hands on during game day. Is he really just vetoing one play a game? Would he publicly undercut Napier's authority?

And some doubt Napier has much autonomy, the thinking goes Napier was hired by Swinney, so Swinney could keep considerable finger prints on the offense.

It will be interesting to watch.

Still, it seems difficult to separate all the offensive issues as even Urban Meyer and Mark Whipple might struggle with a rookie quarterback and absent left tackle.

We'll have much more tomorrow.
