Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012

Situated in a quiet corner of South Windermere neighborhood near the Wappoo Cut, Rebellion Road has a lot going for it. Fashionable stucco, brick and wood frame homes line the street: Some of the houses are waterfront. About all the street lacked was a brand new home. Now that’s been taken care of. Jonathan Goldfarb’s Riverland Builders LLC raised 12 Rebellion Road with backing from developer C.J. Dempsey. The builder and developer, meanwhile, are teaming up to market the three-level, 2,825-square-foot house. Read MoreRead More

Pickup, SUV Country: McElveen in Summerville remakes Hummer dealership as truck superstore

Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012

Here was the situation facing the McElveen dealership in Summerville the past few seasons. On one end of the dealership at Interstate 26 and exit 199B stood a fairly new building, left vacant since its brand was discontinued two years ago. Scattered just about everywhere else were trucks. The light bulb didn’t go off instantly, but it was pretty quick. McElveen corralled the new GMC trucks and many used ones and married them with the empty store, which was the Hummer outlet. Then it named the place Truckville. Read MoreRead More

Brick Solid: Builder stacks up initial sales in quiet western Summerville neighborhood

A few new lots from Dan Ryan Builders in River Birch back up to the Ashley River. Pretty cool, but the builder notes it more as an afterthought. You see, the Summerville neighborhood is near the headwaters of the Ashley. No worries. Dan Ryan Builders has plenty more to offer. Notably, the company is framing brick-façade and all-brick homes with sizable yards and amenity-filled interiors. Read MoreRead More

1651B E. Ashley Ave. — Italian villa-style looks give pizzazz to oceanside home on Folly Beach

Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012

In the strictest sense, one towering residence that’s somewhat obscured by cottages on Folly Beach’s eastern nub is a “beach house.” The stucco-like structure fronts the Atlantic Ocean, aka the beach. And people live there, so it’s a house. Beyond that, 1651B E. Ashley Ave. bears little resemblance to the iconic wood-framed elevated row houses where grown ups and kids track in sand. While untraditional, the three-level fortress with suspended stairs is an attractive fit among Folly Beach’s upper crust east-end homes. Read MoreRead More

627 W. Richardson Ave. — Careful restoration lends style to historic, central Summerville home

Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012

In his day, William H. Richardson would walk to the train station to ride to work in Charleston or maybe hop a carriage that pulled up next to his house. Richardson lived in a two-story Victorian home built in Summerville 125 years ago. That was 1886, the year of the 7.3-magnitude Charleston earthquake. Read MoreRead More
