Alison Mays started working for the College of Charleston student newspaper when she was a freshman.
Three years later, she's done everything else possible — participated in internships, reported for the college's TV news station, attended workshops and seminars and maintained a high grade-point average — to be a cut above her peers when it comes time to enter the work force.
But despite trying to get a head start, Mays, who is hoping to land a job as a broadcast news reporter after she graduates in May, most likely will lag behind her male peers, at least when it comes to salary.
