Hurricane: Emergency Shelters

The American Red Cross and emergency directors regularly update shelter lists, and which shelters are open depends on the storm. Before going to any shelter, monitor local media outlets for updated shelter information.

Also, you can contact emergency offices in each county for the information once shelters have been opened, as well as for other questions such as special transportation needs. In Charleston county, call (Spanish: 202-7191). In Dorchester County, call 832-0393. In Berkeley County, call 1-843-719-4800.

If you relocate to a shelter, make sure to bring blankets and pillows, some food for the first day, and any necessary medications and sanitary supplies. It is highly recommended that you bring your Emergency Supplies Kit.
