Emancipation Day Parade

Zaria Stewart, a Fort Dorchester High School student, brought a friendly face and message to King Street as she watched the Emancipation Day parade on Monday. The event commemorates the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, which declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free."
