The South Carolina Stingrays won 2-0 over the Columbia Inferno on Monday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. With that victory the Stingrays advanced to the best-of-seven conference finals series against Cincinnati. Ammar Muhammed, 5, traveled with his father, Ammad, from Haditha, Iraq, for lifesaving heart surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dental surgery was performed Thursday to prevent an infection after Ammar's heart surgery scheduled for Monday. Ammar has a congenital heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot, a complex condition consisting of four heart abnormalities.

A pursuit of two armed robbery suspects shut down a few blocks of the Charleston peninsula near Broad Street on Friday afternoon after a chase over the James Island connector, police said.
Officers arrested two men who ran from a 1990s model Cadillac DeVille that hit a utility pole on Queen Street, between Legare and Logan streets. Before their capture, officers stood watch at two nearby private schools and police asked people not to leave their homes.
