What is MIE All About?

MIE not only promotes academic achievement and literacy but it also nurtures a curiosity that can lead to greater things. When students start reading the newspaper they begin to become more educated about their community and more interested in the world around them.

The Post and Courier Media In Education program has been serving Lowcountry students and teachers for over 40 years. This not-for-profit program provides students with classroom sets of newspapers and promotes educational excellence by hosting scholastic events such as the SpellBound! Spelling Bee, the Student Challenge of Math and Science, Milestones in African American History Series, the Book and Author Luncheon and SMARTNews, the nations first online newspaper curriculum. Presently, more than 2,000 Lowcountry teachers lead their classrooms with Newspaper In Education lessons each week. These teachers are provided with in-depth training by The Post and Courier which instructs them on how to use the newspaper as a resource for teaching required skills and state standards in all subject areas. Special sections with fun and educational hands-on activities are published on a regular basis on topics such as: History, patriotism, study skills, the Holocaust, math, economics, the construction of the new Cooper River bridge, and more.
