The Charleston Battery agreed to terms with a pair of players Friday by signing defender Kyle Hoffer and midfielder Jose Cuevas. Hoffer transfers to the Battery after a successful rookie pro season with FC New York that saw him earn USL Pro All-League second team honors.

Nicki Paterson scored twice, but the Dayton Dutch Lions rallied to deny the Charleston Battery victory as they fought back to a 2-2 tie Saturday at Miami Valley Stadium. Paterson put the Battery ahead twice in a thrilling first half, but Dayton answered on both occasions.

It was a moment American soccer fans had almost come to expect. In the 104th minute of the Women's World Cup final, Abby Wambach headed in a go-ahead goal. That was her third goal by header in the last three matches, and all were either game-tying or go-ahead goals.
